Sure, June is National Dairy Month, but what would a dairy month be without cheese?
Mark your calendars for National Cheese Day on June 4, and in commemoration, try some quality cheeses made right in your home state. Some cheese shop options around the country include Cabot Creamery in Vermont, Kenny’s Farmhouse Cheese in Kentucky, Ropp Jersey Cheese in Illinois and Mozzarella Co. in Texas. If eating the cheese isn’t enough, Cabot offers tours of its original facility, which dates to 1919. In comparison, Kenny is rather new to cheesemaking, but he’d still love to have you up to the farm store for a tour. Ropp caters to kids on field trips, while Mozzarella Co. even offers cheesemaking classes.
But however you celebrate, don’t confuse summer’s National Cheese Day with National Cheese Lovers Day on January 20. A little confusing, but we’re not complaining – two cheese holidays gives us more excuses to share cheesy recipes such as Asparagus, Spinach and White Cheddar Frittata or this hot brown sandwich with creamy bechamel sauce.
So, are you a Gouda girl, or a mozzarella man – what’s your favorite kind of cheese? Let us know in the comments!
