Sweet Potato Apple Casserole

This recipe combines two essential fall ingredients – apples and sweet potatoes – in one delicious dish.

Ingredients

  • 4 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into ½-inch thick slices
  • 4 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ½ cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Butter a 9-by-13-inch casserole dish, and fill with alternating layers of sweet potatoes and apples.
  3. As you add layers, sprinkle the apples with sugar and the sweet potatoes with salt, a little sugar and liberal dots of butter.
  4. Pour ½ cup of hot water over the potatoes and apples. Cover and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and continue cooking for 15 minutes longer, until potatoes are browned and apples are soft.

I made a similar I boiled the sweet potatoes first they were thinly sliced took them out put them in glass baking dish with apple slices between the sweet potatoes added 2 tablespoons of butter a half cup brown sugar and a quarter cup of light maple syrup baked at 350 for 45 minutes and they came out perfect no butter needed after baking and you could taste the apple in your sweet potato definitely will do this again at Christmas

  2. When I made this the taste was good but the appearance was not good. The sweet potatoes were brownish, did I miss a step?
