Maple Apple Baked Beans

Ingredients
- 5 cans (15 ounces each) great northern beans, rinsed and drained
- 2 1/4 cups Granny Smith apples (2 very large apples), peeled and chopped
- 1 2/3 cups sweet onion, chopped
- 1 cup cooked bacon, coarsely chopped
- 1 1/2 cups hickory barbecue sauce
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/4 cup stone-ground mustard
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ancho chile pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and stir well.
- Pour in 13-by-9-by-2-inch glass baking dish or cast iron Dutch oven coated with vegetable cooking spray.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until bubbly and heated throughout.
Tips & Notes
Choose Granny Smith, the most tart apple variety, to balance the sweet ingredients in this baked bean dish.
