Washington’s Top 10 Ag Products (Infographic)

Washington agriculture is strong and the state produces more than 300 different ag products. The state leads the nation in apple production, accounting for over 70 percent of all apples in the U.S. In Washington alone, apples make up 20 percent of the state’s total cash receipts. Other top ag products are dairy, cattle and calves, wheat, and potatoes, among others.

What’s Growing in Washington?

  • Apples – $2.4 billion: Apple trees take up to four to five years to produce their first fruit.
  • Dairy Products – $1.13 billion: A dairy cow produces about 6.3 gallons of milk each day and 350,000 glasses of milk in a lifetime.
  • Cattle and Calves – $1.03 billion: A steer typically weighs about 1,000 pounds and yields 450 pounds of edible meat.
  • Potatoes – $725 million: Packed with potassium, a medium potato with skin provides 18 percent of the recommended daily value per serving.
  • Wheat – $466 million: A bushel of wheat yields 42 one-and-a-half pound loaves of white bread or 90 one-pound loaves of whole-wheat bread.
  • Cherries – $448 million: There are 1,000 different types of cherries found in the U.S., though less than 10 are actually produced commercially.
  • Hay – $410 million: Sheep and goats refuse to eat trampled hay, but cows and horses will gobble it up.
  • Chicken Eggs – $332 million: U.S. poultry farms provide about 10 percent of the world’s egg supply, or 75 billion eggs each year.
  • Grapes – $297 million: Table grapes (those not used for wine) are considered berries and grow with an average of 100 berries on each bunch.
  • Hogs – $280 million: Pork is the most widely eaten meat. It represents about 42 percent of all meat eaten in the world.

  1. I’ve never seen a large Hog farm in washington you sure it’s not supposed to be Hops?
