What started as a commercial flour mill in 1887 has grown into a fifth-generation, family-owned business with a massive presence in homes and grocery stores across the nation. “JIFFY” Corn Muffin Mix first hit the market in 1950, but the company had already made history just 20 years before, when it released the first-ever, all-purpose baking mix, effectively revolutionizing the at-home baking industry.
“At the time, there was no mix to replace scratch-baking at home,” says Howard Holmes II, president of CMC.
The company has only continued to grow in the years since, manufacturing more than a million boxes a day from their operations in Chelsea.
“The vast majority of our ingredients come from Michigan,” Holmes says. “It’s a great advantage to be here due to the strong agricultural resources in our area. We get calls from other states trying to motivate us to move, and it’s something we’ll never do.”
“JIFFY’s” loyalty to Michigan is only rivaled by its loyalty to its employees: In 100-plus years of doing business, there has never been a single layoff.
